Abaddon, rendered in Greek as Apollyon, is the sovereign angel of the bottomless pit in Christian apocalyptic literature. Presiding over the subterranean abyss in the Book of Revelation, he commands a nightmarish legion of chimerical, scorpion-tailed locusts unleashed during the fifth trumpet to torment the unsealed enemies of God.

In the New Testament Book of Revelation, Abaddon (Apollyon in Greek, Exterminans in the Latin Vulgate) is the king ruling over the infernal abyss. When the fifth trumpet sounds and the smoke of the great furnace ascends, he unleashes a regimented swarm of armored, scorpion-tailed locusts tasked with inflicting agonizing, non-fatal torment upon the unsealed for five months.
