In Sethian Gnostic scriptures of the Nag Hammadi library, Barbelo is the first luminous thought (Ennoia) of the unnamable Invisible Spirit. Titled the Mother-Father and the Triple-Male, she praises the transcendent source and petitions for the archetypal powers: Foreknowledge, Incorruptibility, Eternal Life, and Truth. Through her holy reflection, she generates the divine Autogenes (Christ) and the lower Aeons.
