Haniel

Archangel of Grace and Beauty

Haniel is an archangel of grace, joy, and beauty in Jewish angelology and later Kabbalistic and Renaissance esoteric tradition, ruling the sephirah Netzach and the planet Venus. Counted among the seven archangels under the names Anael, Hanael, and Aniel, Haniel governs love, artistic inspiration, and mystical pleasure — and is said to have escorted Enoch into heaven before his transformation into Metatron.

In Kabbalistic theosophy, Haniel presides over the seventh sephirah, Netzach (Victory/Endurance), governing the Venusian current of grace, beauty, love, and artistic inspiration. The name joins Hebrew ḥen (grace, favor) — or hana'ah (joy, pleasure) — to El (God), yielding Grace of God or Joy of God. Counted among the seven archangels across medieval Jewish and later esoteric lists, Haniel is said to have escorted the patriarch Enoch into heaven before his transformation into Metatron. The Key of Solomon invokes Haniel under the name Anael in workings of love, and Agrippa standardizes the Haniel form among the planetary angels; some later lists treat Aniel as a separate angel rather than a variant spelling.

“The Venus rulership is unusually stable across the older grimoire record (Key of Solomon, Agrippa) and Kabbalistic Netzach attributions. Recent popular-spirituality sources reassign Haniel to the Moon with a moonstone correspondence, with no documented provenance for the shift — a modern development, not an older competing tradition.”
