In Islamic cosmology, Isrāfīl is one of the four archangels (Muqarrabūn), described as possessing four massive wings and a stature spanning the heavens to the underworld. Charged with guarding the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ) and sounding the trumpet (aṣ-Ṣūr), his first blast will strike all creation dead with terror (ṣa'iqah), while his second blast will resurrect all souls from their graves for divine judgment.
